Holiday Concert Annoucement

Please join us on Saturday evening, Dec. 16th, when the Steiner Chorale, under the direction of Steven Easterling, presents an inspiring and entertaining Holiday Concert, beginning at 7:00 PM at University United Methodist Church, 1120 South Harrison Road, East Lansing, MI.

Admission is free, but offerings in support of the Chorale will be very much appreciated. Concert highlights include a hauntingly moving 8-part setting by Ola Gjeilo of “O Magnum Mysterium,” a lovely arrangement of “Ubi Caritas” by Daniel Forrest, and “Was I the Lamb” by John Rutter. The Steiner women will sing a cool version of “Down in the River,” drawn from the Sacred Harp tradition; while the Steiner men will sing “The Boars Head Carol” and the rousing spiritual “Hold Out Your Light.” Two other spirituals and unusual arrangements of favorite traditional pieces round out this varied program. Strings, flute, piano, and drums accompany several of the works.

A reception for all will offer elegant refreshments and renewal of friendships.

Spring Concert Announcement

The Steiner Chorale, supported by members of the Lansing Symphony Orchestra will present two lovely but different settings of the Requiem mass. The first of these masterworks is the beloved and moving Requiem by W.A. Mozart, using a version that is drawn from Mozart’s autograph manuscript. The second is the thrilling Requiem for the Living, composed by Dan Forrest in 2013. Interpolated into the traditional text are an exciting percussive section containing the “Vanity, Vanity” verses from Ecclesiastes and some biting words from Job. The lyrical and hopeful “Lux Aeterna” is augmented by verses from Matthew, sung in English. The concert will begin at 7:00 PM at University United Methodist Church, 1120 South Harrison Road, East Lansing, MI. Admission is $10.00, but students with ID are welcome at no charge. A reception will take place following the concert.
